Why do we do, say, write and even think the things that we do? One answer that comes to mind is motive of the heart. A book called, 'In His Steps', challenged people to consider one question before making any decision. That question was WWJD, What would Jesus Do?"
Motive of the heart is essentially the same thing. It examines the why of what we do. Why do we feel the need to say and do certain th...ings? What do we hope to accomplish? Do we seek to be noticed, heard, validated, affirmed, accepted, approved or seen? Do we want to be right, to feel superior or to wound, even for a moment? Are we motivated by malice, greed, envy, rejection or a need for revenge?
Do we do things simply out of love, care and concern for our family, friends and neighbors? If we considered our motives before we acted would the world be a more quiet place? Would we write less, talk less or even do less?
Maybe it isn't that we would do anything less. We would just do it differently. Perhaps there are some things that a pure motive would not allow at all but, ultimately, if our motives were considered before each speech, each post, each sermon, each lesson, each shared moment, then maybe life would be sweeter. Perhaps true unity would abound.
Even as I write this post I have to ask myself the same question I present to you. What is my motive? My answer for you is that I want to share because these are the questions I ponder almost daily. As much as I love to write and share, I find myself writing less as I question my own motives.
It is my hope to write when truly inspired by the Lord, so that anything written would have more of an eternal value. Less of me and more of Him. Be encouraged and be not afraid to be silent in the moments when you want to shout, to be seen, to be heard. God sees you, hears you and knows you. It is my hope that we would be most satisfied in Him.
